The global instability following the end of the Cold War and the availability of unsecured nuclear installations and resources in different locations creates a real threat of new generation terrorist attacks with potentially even more devastating results. The possibility of non-state actors and rogue entities to acquire nuclear weapons increases as well. Therefore nuclear weapons proliferation and its prevention becomes a major security issues in the current international agenda.
